Update on layouts

Here is a quick update on the layouts I have been working on. After taking a break from them and then getting some crits from various individuals, I want to start both these pieces over again. I have been getting random inspiration about things I can do to make both these pieces better. Unfortunately, time is not on my side. I'll probably have to leave them as is for now and take another stab at them in summer.

Return to painting and cafe sketching all at once

I have not been cafe sketching and painting very much as of late, which is really sad for me and I think it has contributed to the soul crushing feeling of this school term. One of my classmates, Alex, has suggested that I take time out before I start work and draw something non-school related. So this is what I am trying today...Here is a cafe sketch I did while at Second Cup. I felt pretty rusty trying to get this thing done, but had fun regardless.

Layout Assignment: WIP

I haven't been able to upload anything new lately so I thought I would put up a couple of works in progress. These two pieces are for my layout class. The assignment is to create two layouts based on any subject matter we wish. There were no guidelines given for this layout other than the fact that we had to produce line work and keep in mind that we were also going to tone the layout. Without further ado here they are:
