Maquette Update

Here's a quick update on my maquette. I had some setbacks during the recent stages of development and have been scrambling to make up for the lost time. I think I have it under control now and I'm on to the painting stages of the process. I am determined to see how far I can take this paint job with acrylic paints and brushes alone. I was hesitant to even apply paint at first due to the hard work and time I have put into the sculpt so far, but slowly I am beginning to remember how exciting it is to experiment with mediums and the excitement is spurring me on to go further with it. I also realized that creating an additive sculpture in sculpty requires nowhere near the same attention to scoring and proper technique as when using clay. The only thing that matters is keeping the thickness of the overall sculpture down to account for the variable heating and cooling time of the inner and outer portions of the sculpty. Given all that, my next maquette can built in a fraction of the time (lesson learned).

As always, please feel free to lay down a crit.

This is the maquette right before baking ( I almost didn't even want to bake it, I found the unbaked sculpty gave the maquettte a fleshy sort of feel that I liked )

I was watching intently when this thing was baking and praying at the same time that it would not blow up or crack.

It didn't blow up, but I didn't get away scot-free.

Started the repairs, which turned out to quite difficult. I probably should have used crazy glue. Next time I guess.

After the repairs.

After the base coat ( was tempted to leave it at this stage (aside from the teeth, finger nails, toes, and spine for the final ).
