Maquette Update

Here are some updated photos of my maquette. I'm not sure what it is, but the maquette is definitely not going as planned right now and I am having difficulties getting through the arms and hands. It probably has a lot to do with staring at it too long. Whatever the case, I am determined to keep going with it. I'll work out the kinks as they come up. I welcome any feedback that you guys might have.

Laugh Animation

For this assignment I had to animate a character laughing in sync with a prerecorded laugh track. I did not get to finish the assignment, but I think I learned what I needed to from the assignment. Hopefully I will get a chance to finish this assignment during the summer.

Life Drawing - Dec 9th, 2008

Here are some life drawings from a few weeks back. I had a lot of fun when doing these, though no where near accurate or proportional as I would have hoped, but still fun none the less. Hopefully they will be a new jumping point for me for my life drawing.

Euro 2007 Photo Dump

Here are some more photos from my Europe Trip in 2007. I figured since I have been MIA for the past 2-3 weeks I would post some relatively simple things to get me back into the groove. The images are from Madrid, Rome, Vienna, Florence, Paris, and Prague. As you can see from the 2nd photo and all subsequent shots and variations of the same sunset/cityscape I have a fascination with the sunset over Florence. It's probably one of my favorite places in the world.

Hands

Here are some studies of my hand that I completed for life drawing class.

Returning to Cafe/Bus Sketching

From Cafe Sketches
From Nov 19 2008

I have finally started to sketch on the bus and in cafes again. Its nice to draw for fun again and I find its one of the only things that keeps me awake on the bus now a days.

Maquette - Final Character Design Assignment

Here are some progress shots of my maquette for character design class. The assignment is to design two characters based on a script that we each wrote up for storyboarding class. For each character we are to create model sheets and character rotations. The second portion of the assignment is to create a maquette of one of the characters.

Thus far, my progress has been pretty slow. I at first thought that this would go faster given I have had previous experience with sculpting (clay and sculpty), but I forgot to factor in my 7 year hiatus...needless to say its been a struggle to find my footing again with sculpting. Slowly, but surely I guess.

Single Sentence Animation

From singleSentence

This is my latest animation assignment that I completed for class. The project was to animate and lip sync a character to a prerecorded audio track. The sentence had to be from 7-10 words long. I'm still having some trouble keeping loose and fluid with my drawings when I animate, but overall my progress has been pretty positive.

Helpful Horoscope

I read my horoscope from time to time for the hey of things. It's not that I believe what they have to say, but it is at times funny or entertaining to read none the less. I read my horoscope online from The Globe and Mail this morning and it reminded me of something that I'm sure we all know, but it is good to hear and actually think about from time time. Here's what I read:

TAURUS (April 21 - May 21): In the greater scheme of things your problems are of little consequence, and the sooner you accept that fact the sooner you can stop feeling sorry for yourself and start doing something useful with your life.

Don't wait for tomorrow - do it today.

Another Tiger Painting...

From Paintings

Hey everyone, I don't know what it is, but I seem to be on a big cat painting kick right now. Here is another digital painting of a tiger. I'm not sure how long this one took me; I was not keeping track of the time.

EDIT: This painting was done with photo reference (if you didn't already assume that)

Some Photos...

Here are some photos that I took during my Cali Trip (Summer 2008) and my Europe Trip (Spring 2007) that I have finally found some time to clean up for printing. Really only the last one is from my Europe Trip, the rest are from Cali.

Absolutely Incredible Animation

From Absolutely Incredible

I "finished" my Absoutely Incredible Animation Today. I ended up running low on time, so I had to cut some serious corners. In the end though I'm pretty happy with how it turned out considering the time contraints. If I get time in the summer or Christmas break I will probably try to rework it.

As a recap, for the assignment we were asked to design a character and then animate a lip sync to a provided audio file provided by our instructor.

Speed Paint Attempt #3

From Paintings

Here is another attempt at speed painting. This one was probably a little over 1 hour.

EDIT: This painting was done with photo reference (if you didn't already assume that)

Spped Paint Attempt #2

From Paintings

Here is my second attempt at speed painting. I limited myself to 1 hour this time and in doing so I think I tried to rush myself at the beginning giving me a mishapened tiger. I think the next time, I will still take my time to properly block the shaped in first.

Atempt at Speed Painting

From Paintings

Here is my first attempt at speed painting. Lets just say that there wasn't much speed to this painting. It ended up taking 2 hours, but it was a very informative 2 hours. Hopefully I will be able to cut down on the time these rough paintings take me. Just in case you guys didn't know feedback is always welcome. Thanks.

Painting Death (Redux)

From Paintings

I needed to wind down before sleeping so I thought I would revisit and tidy up some of the painting. I also added some things to painting based on the feedback I recieved earlier today. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and opinions it added volumes to the success of this painting.

Character Design for "Trekkie" Character

From absolutelyincredible

From absolutelyincredible

Here are some designs I created for my Character Design class. The assignment was to create a suitable chracter based on a audio track that we chose. The final design (second image) will be used in conjunction with the audio track to create an animation for my animation class.

Drawings from Life Drawing Class

I had a great drawing session in life drawing class yesterday. More and more I feel like I have been returning to a more expressive method of drawing and I'm pretty happy about that. It feels quite natural. It unfortunately comes at the expense of correct anatomy and proportions but I figure I can always get that back in there afterwards.

Rough Painting - Death

From Paintings

Here is a rough painting I did today to capture a train of thought/concept I had on the topic of death. I have also appropriately named this one "Death".

I was in the mood to paint this morning so I took one of my zoo sketches and did a quick painting/colour rendering of it.

Older Cafe Sketches - March 28, 2008...I think

Here are some older cafe sketches from earlier in the year.

Life Drawing - 09/22/08 and 09/23/08

Here are some life drawings I completed over the last couple of days. I am still stuggling to find my line work and my eye for proportions, but I am happy with progress that I have been making. At the very least the flow has remained since rediscovering it last week.

Digital Tools Assignment - Empty Earth - Completed (for now)

From Digital Tools Assignment 1

Here is the final version of my digital tools assignment before I hand it in. I cannot spend any more time on this because of my other assignments. Its unfortunate because I had a fun time getting back into the digital painting.

Digital Tools Assignment 1 - Empty Earth Layout and Paint - IN PROGRESS (UPDATED)

Here is a digital painting that I am in the middle of for my digital tools assignment. The premise of the assignment was to create a layout based on a photo of a Toronto street that would depict the a Earth as if all human life had been extinguished and hundreds of years have passed. The other requirement was to have a streetcar in the mid ground that displayed the TTC logo.

Jekyll to Hyde Transformation

From Jekyll to Hyde Transformation

From bat work

From bat work

From bat work

Here is my Jekyll to Hyde transformation from first year. The assignment was to create our own version of a Dr. Jekyll to Hyde transformation. My back story involved a Pathologist who is infected with the Marburg virus while studying the virus. As a desperate measure the Pathologist attempts to create a cure from the antibodies of a bat (who have have been found to be immune to the virus). As an accidental result of this cure, the pathologist is transformed into a man-bat creature Hyde.

Looking back at this assignment is pretty hard. At the end of first year, I actually spent A LOT of time on this, but never got the outcome or payoff that I had hoped for. I ended up over working the designs and was left with too little time to complete the clean and colour versions. If I get the chance I hope to revisit this one day and do it right.

I have highlighted a few of the poses I was happy with.

Meow Assignment

From Meow

Just completed my first animation for second year of animation. For this assignment we were required to animate a provided character saying "MEOW". As expected, I am very rusty from having the entire summer off from animating, so there was a bit of a struggle with this assignment. Overall it turned out pretty well, but there are a couple of things that I was not able to resolve when the deadline passed for this assignment. The character does not transition well from the "-AH" mouth postition to the "-OU" mouth position and I was not able to complete a proper "settle" for the character after it completes the action.

FatJump Animation

From animation

I found my test file for the FatJump animation from first year. I'm not sure if this is the completed version but I will double check when I have some time. If it isn't I will post the final version then.
